International Workshop

 

October,  25-26,  2018, University of Cologne, 'House of Prominence'

 

The International Workshop ´Datives in Discourse´ will take place at the University of Cologne (Germany), October 25-26 2018 and its organized by Klaus von Heusinger (University of Cologne) and Alina Tigău (University of Bucharest and University of Cologne).

The workshop dwells on recent experimental and theoretical research in syntax, semantics and pragmatics and focuses on aspects revolving around dative structures (ditransitives, applicatives, quirky subjects etc.) and their semantic and pragmatic effects on discourse structure.

 

Organisation

The workshop is organized by Klaus von Heusinger (University of Cologne) and Alina Tigău (University of Cologne and University of Bucharest).

Call for Papers

This workshop aims at exploring various aspects of revolving around the syntax, semantics and pragmatics of dative structures cross-linguistically. We welcome contributions addressing topics contributing to the enhancement of our understanding of dative structures, with a special focus on the following:

1. Ditransitives constructions

2. Core and non-core datives

3. Applicatives

4. Case vs. Pre/Postposition alternations

5. Quirky subjects

6. Datives in discourse

We invite abstracts for 30 minute talks (plus 10 minute discussions).

Abstracts should be no longer than 2 pages in a font size no less than 12pt including examples and references. Abstracts should be anonymous, since double-blind review will be adopted: contact details (Author’s name and affiliation) and the title of the presentation should be included in the accompanying email.

How to get to Cologne by car, train or plane.

From Cologne Central Station (Köln Hauptbahnhof) to the SFP Building ´House of Prominence´ of the University of Cologne:

From Cologne Main Station: tickets for the subway (U-Bahn) can be bought from vending machines on the track or on board the train (coins or cash card, CityTicket1b 2,80€). Take U-Bahn line 18 in direction Neumarkt/Barbarossaplatz/Bonn to the stop Sülzburgstraße. The venue is 200 m, on the left as you proceed in the same direction of the train.
