The starting point for the conference’s theme is the connection between the discourse structure and the use of referring expressions. It is well recognized in the literature that the discourse affects the interpretation of referring expressions and the space of anaphoric accessibility and that the use of referring expressions restricts the set of possible discourse interpretations. During the conference we will explore four related topics in order to a chieve a broad crosslinguistic understanding of reference in discourse in natural languages.
